Domains, with or without WWW

In the early 1990's when web pages have become popular each site was in the form of "www. Domain. Com". WWW has become a synonym for the world wide web. Every time you see a text as "www. Domain. Com" instantly know that this is a web address. But www is mandatory for the web address?

The purpose of domains is to have some easy to remember names. These names are translated into IP addresses that are required to communicate over the internet. Domains, as we use them in the Internet sector are organized in a hierarchical naming system. We have a couple of general-purpose top domains like com, org, net, top-level domains of first country like us, uk, de (each country has its own unique top level domain), and special TLDs such as mobility, aero, museum and others. Each domain has a greater claim second level domain names, where you can have anything you want (of course, if it has not yet been registered). Each domain name must be unique and not longer than 63 characters.

The level of domains does not stop there. Each second-level domain can have any name as a third level domain. WWW is an example. Each domain (regardless of the level) must be associated with at least an IP address. Therefore "domain. Com" and "domain www .. com" domains are different and each has its own IP address that can be the same. We have several services related to our domain as an area for FTP access or private. In this case it makes sense to assign each service to its third level sub-domain. One of the services may be the web pages at www sub-domain. But getting the www domain is not mandatory. You could have your primary domain pointing to your website. And 'the perception of people every web address should start with WWW.

Most domains have no other service of web pages. Therefore there is no need to use for your website www. But it makes sense to create and configure www subdomain and redirect to the root domain. In this way you will lose visitors who type www in front of the domain. E 'can also do the opposite - to redirect non-www address to address www. For this you need to configure DNS records for domain www and check with your site how to do the redirect there. Usually you can file with.htaccess.

With or without the www you can have a successful website. It is up to you and to your taste that make it a choice. If you decide to use shorter and simpler version without the www you can still make it clear that this is a website by typing "http://example.com" and everyone will know that this is a web address .......
