Major Wind Turbine Marine World

Eleven Spanish giants who are committed to renewable energy and sustainability among those who are Iberdrola, Acciona, Gamesa and Alstom, with 22 research centers, form the DRAFT AZIMUT, whose purpose is to assist in developing a large offshore wind turbine size (speaking of about 15 MW). The project, pioneer in the development of a technology so new finance and technology will be 100% Spanish.

The Azimut project has been approved by the Ministry of Education and Science of Spain and preliminary studies will require a financial investment close to 25 million euros. If all goes well the project would begin in 2013 and culminated with the installation of large offshore wind turbine in 2020, certainly a big step for offshore wind energy and Spanish technology, which could settle on the top in sustainable infrastructure.

The main objective of this project is to try to overcome the current barriers to the development of offshore wind turbines and match future cost to onshore turbines. The acutal, the biggest problems in the construction and maintenance of offshore wind turbines are linked to the availability, the foundation and the evacuation of power to the ground.

Gamesa is the company that lead the project and for his part, Acciona Windpower will focus on developing the technology responsible for the conversion of electrical energy. Alstom Wind will be responsible for marine structures and Acciona Energy construction and future maintenance of marine enclave.

Iberdrola in turn be responsible for integrating the offshore wind structure in the electrical system. The other participating companies are responsible for various tasks complementary.
